Hello, I'm back with another Outfit & Steed combo for my Warden Rechart. I got my inspiration for this one from seeing how blasted good Nathrien's "Slayer of the Sword Halls" looked with the Steed of the Warden dyed black. See I'd pointed my Warden kin leader Material Middle-Earth's way when he had recently asked me to make him an outfit. Next night, he bought the Steed of the Warden and put 2 & 2 together. Of course, I'm a sucker myself, so I snapped up the steed and set about designing my own outfit.

Warden of the Vale

While Argendauss has had a few fun custom warsteeds to ride around Middle Earth basically since week two of RoR, it was only recently that I treated my Warden Rechart to his own unique-looking steed. Something like three weeks ago I put this get-up together to fill that gap. Rather unimaginatively, I call this outfit the Warden of the Vale, though based on his color scheme I might call him the Peninsular Avanc!

Featured on LotRO Reporter

I've been a listener to LotRO Reporter for a while, and Tuesday I got a chance to appear on it. I'd seen on Tuesday of this past week that Turbine had taken Fornost Earth offline, and I'd known exactly why. I tried to get a hold of my buddy Layanor before the show and ended up saying my piece in LotRO Reporter's vent channel. Fun times!
I appear around 8:05 in the podcast. Note that I was intoxicated at the time and my speech was deliberately set at a slow and plodding pace so I didn't fuck it all up, heh. To be clear, a RSoE every 3-5 minutes meant three challenge completions within that timeframe. In the very last bit I must've been responding to something in chat--totally did a 180 in the middle of a sentence.
My... sources tell me that players who farmed Fornost Earth challenge (done by resetting the fight after the boss was killed but before adds were killed) were not rolled back or banned. Turbine's problem, and Turbine did right by taking the Instance down, probably until U9.

Mounted Shining Steel

Hello again, folks. Last week, Turbine introduced the Steed of the Captain to the LotRO store, and I immediately jumped on it--even before I'd gotten a good look at it. It was just one of those things I, with a Captain main, had been anticipating for a long time. And my, my... jinglebells aside I think they did a great job designing this particular steed.

Quick Update

I've been playing the hell out of a couple other games this past week, I'll just give y'all a rundown on what's going on.

Hotline Miami is one of those games I got into. It's a brutal, fast-paced arcade-style game, indie released in late October. I kept seeing all these good reviews on Kotaku and Rock Paper Shotgun, so I picked it up and spent all day and some of the next day playing it. The action is set to like hyper-speed, though I would often park my character behind a corner or closed door, anticipation building as I developed a bloody plan-of-action. Old-school graphics aside, every instance of crunching skulls and spilling guts is exhilarating. It's often called arcade-style, but each quarter oughta net you like 10 lives--dying is inevitable but fun (almost like in Dorf Fortress). And ohmygosh the soundtrack is the best. I dig everything by M|O|O|N, but right now I think I like the song for the disco level, Push It, the best.

Mounted Dog of War

Today I wanted to share the warsteed for the Dog of War outfit that I made a while back. Dog of War, along with Raid Ready Captain, has been a favorite outfit of mine to wear--that is when I do wear an outfit instead of just my equipment (more on that in a later post). I wish I could go all-out and make tons of warsteed outfits, but as many have noted that's a rather expensive route to go. Settling for two custom warsteed set-ups (besides the Eastemnet horse) on my Captain is all I'm willing to do at this time--especially because I will not be converting beer money to horse money for a little while. I just got some fantastic black lager on Monday... Anyway, on a more serious note, it's heartbreaking that the prices have been set so high that it's preventing or repelling other talented folks from making even a couple outfits that require store purchases. Here's hoping the ridiculous prices drop, and in the meantime take loads of pictures in the next open beta and enjoy viewing this addition to the Dog of War ensemble.

Thoughts on RoR launch cosmetics

Today I want to share my thoughts on the new armor and steed cosmetics we have gotten with the launch of Riders of Rohan. I'll address the people-armor first and discuss my views on the quality and cost of the new warsteeds' tack & barding.
(Page break because it makes my post's view-count go up by necessity :):

Rohirric Warden: Lancer

Last week I showed my Captain in a heavy outfit based around the Hauberk of the Eastemnet. This week, I've used that as a centerpiece for another Warden outfit. This is Rechart as a Rohirric Lancer. This Lancer outfit represents the frontline melee role that Wardens have in combat, and I've clad him in heavier armor to show that.

Captain Build Spreadsheet

This isn't LotRO outfitting related, but I do what I want!

I've updated my Captain build-planning spreadsheet for RoR. The cool thing about this spreadsheet is that it requires very little work from you. I have pretty much every piece of armor/jewelry anything that an endgame captain would want. All you gotta do is make selections on one of the Calculations tabs, input a few things manually (weapon/emblem top stats and stat legs, food buffs, scrolls, tactics buffs, stat tomes, etc.), and your stats calculated accurately. If any gear you want to use in your build is not included, why you can easily input the data once in the gear tabs.

If you intend to have an 85 Captain, check it out. Here's the OP with better instructions than this. Link to the actual spreadsheet is at the bottom of the post and also here.

Rohirric Captain: Knight

This outfit is that of a heavily armored Captain sporting a Rohirric style. As I stated previously I wanted the centerpiece of the outfit to be the Hauberk of the Eastemnet gotten from preordering Riders of Rohan (either Heroic or Legendary edition).

Rohirric Loremaster

Of the renowned adventurers hailing from the Donderrion clan of Northmen, Metaxas is the eldest. While Argendauss is a gallant crusader in the fight against Sauron's growing influence, and whereas Rechart is a stalwart defender of the Free People from Forochel to Rivendell, Metaxas Donderrion is a different sort of man. Metaxas fashions himself as both a seeker and applier of knowledge; he is a Loremaster.
Metaxas's pack is filled with bags of powders and jars of liquids, the properties of which are known to few beings, much less short-lived men. In seconds, he can produce from that pack both cures for his allies and flames for his foes. Of the martial arts, Metaxas is a master of both staff and sword. When his enemies are not consumed by nature's fury, they succumb to cracked skills and cleaved limbs. Metaxas has wandered Middle Earth, seeing and learning the frigid forests of the Misty Mountains and southern Forochel, the treacherous Old Forest, and the endless golden canopy of Lothlorien. Through his journeys, nature has become his ally, and it fights with this Loremaster against Mordor's armies.

Skyrim Break

Hey guys, sorry to disappoint, but I'm gonna take a little break from my irregular posting schedule.

School's started, but that's not really an issue. It's my last semester and I'm taking easy classes. I just gotta get a job and pass, in that order.

I have two out of three more Rohan outfits almost ready to go. I'm just missing one piece for each--some Dunland quest gloves that share the appearance of the ToO gloves Lesgaim and a certain cloak that I won't name. For the gloves, I've exhausted the quests that drop those on both Argendauss and Rechart. Metaxas is getting very close to the Bonevales, at 62, so I intend to get them that way. If I had raided more these past two weeks, I might have been able to snag Lesgaim, since all our burgs/hunters have it. Frustratingly enough, I've used these gloves before. I just threw them away or something. The cloak, I'll acquire on Metaxas as well.

Rohirric Warden: Skirmisher

Wardens are versatile fighters capable of holding the line in melee as well as dispatching enemies from range. Here, the Warden Rechart is the embodiment of the javelin discipline of Wardens. Fighting as a mounted skirmisher, Rechart casts javelins at foes as he weaves across the battlefield on his nimble, light horse. Only when his enemies are wounded does he charge in for the kill.

Upcoming Series

I have an idea for an outfit series that I will show here on Plate Metal Jacket during the rest of the time preceding the launch of Riders of Rohan. I want to clad my three highest level characters Argendauss (CPT), Rechart (WDN), and Metaxas (LM) in a green Rohirric theme, with some intention to make them look good on the only (future) warhorse cosmetic I currently have:  the Steed of the Eastemnet.

I have some sillyl photos. Since I"m drunk, now's a good a time as any to show you them. Typing interesting words is usually hard, but I feel really good at it right now.

Here are some silly screenshot's I've amassed in the past several weeks.

(later EDIT: I'm not going to change this, I think it's funny and I hope you do to.

Dog of War

The basic idea for this outfit is something I've been wanting to do for a long time--combine OD heavy armor pieces into something unique. In fact, the vision I had for this outfit is similar to the one I had for the Raid Ready series, except this armor is dyeable.

Ruin Warden

I have a very sparse backstory for my race of man characters, all with the surname Donderrion (which is a bastardization of a minor ASoIaF character's surname). To paraphrase the backstory as I described it to Frey:
The Donderrions are a clan of Dale men who traversed the Misty Mountains to settle in Eriador after Smaug razed Dale and claimed the Lonely Mountain as his lair. The Donderrions integrated with the DĂșnedain, and now Argendauss, Rechart, Metaxas and their clan fight to restore an ancient kingdom that is not theirs by heritage, but by choice.

The Beastlord

A few weeks ago I began heavily leveling my lowbie loremaster Metaxas alongside my kinmate's guardian. This is my third toon to start leveling with any seriousness, but he is the first I've leveled exclusively in a group. Due in part to my fascination with loremaster healing and also to pay homage to a gaming buddy of mine who plays a blue loremaster, I've decided to rock Keeper of Animals traits (and two reds) while I level Metaxas. The survivability of our little leveling duo is quite high; after my debuffs are in place, 20s Beacon of Hope keeps my guard buddy in good shape.

I am eagerly anticipating getting heal-specific traits, legacies, and armor sets so that I can optimally heal RoR 3-mans whenever they're released--maybe I'll even have time to play the current ones on level.

Raid Ready Part 3: Hunter

Raid Ready Part 3! I've been wanting to post this for a while. This here is my kinmate Xerodegreez, and I thought his outfit fit very well with Raid Ready theme. That is, he takes parts of the ToO armor and mixes and matches and makes it his own while keeping the dark feel of the original Orthanc set. I remember Xero's excitement when he put this set together, and I was happy when he responded affirmative to my request to feature this outfit.

Acolyte of Dagor

Some who still dwell in Middle Earth have the knowledge of runes as Celebrimbor did long ago. Their enchanted inscriptions might sometimes inspire Free Peoples to greatness, but other times their runes spell out death to evil. This battle Runekeeper scribes the latter type. He is a satirist and a doomsayer; orcs must heed his words when they come to fiery life before their very eyes. This runekeeper's sturdy dwarven frame is clad in steel and mail, yet his dexterous hands are free to etch out powerful condemnations of his enemies. This Acolyte of Dagor has made a literary career of war.

My apologies on the lack of updates last week, my few and proud and elite readers. I had a mind to feature a really cool outfit a kinmate of mine made, but he went on vacation before he could send me the pics and a paragraph about it. Even worse: he's 1 of our raid groups 2 premier hunters, and both are on vacation! No taking a crack at Shadow T2 for us this week.

I did make another outfit yesterday, though. I've got content, just gotta get myself in gear and show it.

By the way, the new cosmetic dummies? Awful.
1. Combine crafted gear + one store exclusive piece.
2. Place gear on dummies and position dummies in conspicuous locations in major hubs.
3. ????
4. Profit

I wish they were DPS dummies that stayed put for like 5 mins.

Raid Ready Part 2: Captain

My main man Argendauss here. He was my first and, for a while, only character in this game. My gaming buddies from L4D got me into LotRO, my first serious MMO. Sometimes I would hear them in Teamspeak talking about protecting pies from nosy hobbits, and I was like "Lol, forget that!" But a little after the advent of free-to-play LotRO, they convinced me and several other clanmates to join up and give LotRO a try. I created Argendauss, and I got hooked. And you know, I didn't have to perform many silly quests for hobbits because I could play in Bree and Ered Luin.

Raid Ready Part 1: Warden

As a LotRO player, I'm a Captain first and foremost. However, I've immensely enjoyed playing my Warden and am very happy that I chose the class as my first alt. Things I have to push the limit to do on Argendauss, I can do with Rechart with ease. Wardens are awesome!

Defender of the Crumbling School

No lore today. Except "Argendauss is a bad-ass." I think that might be in one of Tolkein's letters...

Shining Steel

Clad in shining steel of dwarven make, Argendauss Donderrion battles the forces of Isengard with fercocity. No sight inspires the warriors of the free peoples more than a Captain inflicting blunt-force-trauma with a massive Greathammer to the minions of evil. "To Arms, my Blade-Brothers!"

Hill Warden

This is my Warden, Rechart Donderrion. The Donderrions hail from Dale. These Northmen relocated to Eriador after Smaug razed the town of Dale. These Men have integrated into the Dunedain culture, and a few  such as Argendauss and Rechart have ridden south with the Rangers.

Troll Slayer

I'm Argendauss. First thing you oughta know about me is that I'm a Captain. I'm a jack-of-all-trades, the Swiss Army knife of raids. I do a little bit of everything, and I'm damn good at all of it. See this big boy here? I tanked him, and I spanked him. Took my great hammer and smacked him where the sun don't shine... then acquainted him to the sun! He's more like a housing trophy now.

Thanks for visiting Plate Metal Jacket!

I'm Jackson, and this is where I'll share my LotRO outfit creations, and probably also my thoughts on LotRO miscellanea like instances, class builds, and the game itself. I'm a raider, and I don't get too caught up in festivals, but I do love throwing together lean, mean, battle-ready outfits for my toons.

My main, Argendauss "Arg" Donderrion is a Captain. Lately I've put a lot of time in my Warden Rechart Donderrion. These two warriors are going to feature more prominently in this blog than any of my other toons.

Expect to see some sweet martial outfits for LotRO classes in this blog. I don't clad my boys in frills, I play in leather, chainmail, and plate!
